We doulas talk a lot about holding space for our clients, may it be in labour childbirth or even postpartum. But what does it mean to hold space for someone?

Looking at this little hand today while my daughter was in the Christmas spirit and crafty brought in some melancholy feelings. Looking at her hand made me realize that she wasn’t that tiny newborn anymore (I mean she is a toddler now 😂). It made me think back of the days when she was SO little. The days I was exhausted because I was up most of the night feeding her. Caring for her. It took so much time to adjust and regaining some of my freedom as a person but yet I dearly miss the newborn days. Cuddling up that tiny human. Spending my days feeding and holding her. When people told me that I would miss the newborn days once they were over I rolled my eyes 👀 But let’s be honest, the best advice we can give parents is to soak up the newborn goodness! Spend those days cuddling and caring your baby 👶 Things like dishes, laundry and other household chores can take a step back while you care for yourself as a parent and your baby. And honestly I, as a doula can do those nasty chores for you anyway 😉
